FIELD TRIPS
For School & Youth Groups
Field Trip programs at The Long Barn are an excellent way to provide school classes and youth groups with an overview of the operations of an organic farm. Experienced guides will lead tour groups and engage students with meaningful activities on the farm.

We are pleased to offer field trips to the Greater Scarborough & Portland areas. We are happy to form partnerships and work together to find ways to support the cost of your field trip and farm to school partnership whenever possible. Priority for grants and other field trip/partnership funds will be given to schools located in Scarborough.

Area Schools

1-2 Hour Field Trip includes:
- A tour of the farm
- A short, farm related activity, if time allows

1/2 Day Field Trip includes:
- A tour of the farm
- An extended farm related activity (see below)

1/2 Day Field Trip Activity Options:
From Farm to Table (Autumn)
Children will harvest vegetables from the field, and turn them into a tasty treat! Depending on the season we may make wood fired pizza, soup or salad! We'll talk about how the vegetables are grown and how that impacts the environment around us.

Critters in the Garden (Spring or Autumn)
Children will hunt for signs of bugs and animals in the garden and surrounding woods. They will investigate the impact that critters can have on plants both wild and cultivated.

Nature Journals (Spring or Autumn)
Children will make their own nature journals and spend time on the farm listening and watching. They will talk about what kinds of things people use nature journals for, and have time to write and draw in their journals.

Coordinated Curriculum
Our hope is that the farm becomes an extension of the classroom and the work children are already doing. We are excited to work with teachers to build a field trip curriculum for your unique group. We are happy to do this at an additional cost or through coordinated grant and fundraising efforts. Please contact us for more information

- Field trips should be scheduled between May 1 and October 15 as the farm is most dynamic during these months.

To schedule a field trip, please email us at info@longbarnmaine.org, or call Megan at 207.294.1975 or Beatrice at 603.321.3009.
