We encourage families not to sign up for more than 3 weeks per summer as to allow as many children as possible to have an opportunity to experience at least one week at The Long Barn Summer Camp. Email questions to info@longbarnmaine.org or call Beatrice at 603.321.3009

Sprouts
1/2 Day Program for 4 & 5 year olds
Offered all weeks
Mon.-Fri., 9am-noon
$110/wk members, $120/wk nonmembers
Reduced rate for Holiday Week*

With an eye towards the unique needs of very young children, we structure the half day program to include lots of imagination, hands-on learning and play activities. Little ones love coming to camp; feeding pigs, visiting the cows, collecting eggs, handling chicks and ducklings, munching veggies and strawberries in the garden, learning simple recipes, exploring the woods, building fairy houses, singing songs, listening to stories, playing games, making art, and of course... learning how to use an outhouse!

Farm Kids
Full Day Program for 6-10 year olds
Offered all weeks
Mon.-Fri., 9am-3pm
$195/wk members, $205/wk nonmembers
Reduced rate for Holiday Week*

The Farm Kids Program allows campers to experience all the workings of a small, organic working farm. Pigs, ducks, turkeys and laying hens are all part of a camper's experience. Campers will participate in farm chores such as weeding, picking potato bugs, collecting eggs, feeding the pigs, and planting seedlings. Campers will take walks in the woods, learn about farm and forest ecology, collect salamanders and frogs, do craft projects, and learn how good local, organic farm-raised food can be through simple cooking projects.  Campers play and read and dig in the dirt and come home asking for snap peas and carrots for dinner.

Homesteading Week

Offered Week 4 Only
Full Day Program for 11-14 year olds
Mon.-Fri., 9am-3pm
$195/wk members, $205/wk nonmembers

Let's get back to our roots by trying our hand at some homesteading skills; woodworking, weaving, caring for livestock, cooking in a solar oven, gardening, bread baking, cooking over an open fire, pickling and making strawberry jam are just a few things you might learn! This week will run as a typical session, with an eye towards learning time honored skills!

Junior Counselors
Full or Half Day Program for 15-17 year olds
Offered all weeks
By application only

Junior Counselors are a strong component of the day-to-day functions of camp. These 15-17 year olds offer their time and service as counselors in exchange for an opportunity to learn about early childhood education and sustainable farming. In addition to being a part of the farm crew, JC's will have training sessions and a farm overnight. To apply, please click HERE to fill out the JC application form and print out or view the JC Repsonsibilities and Expectations page here.

NEW THIS YEAR!!  Returning JC's are eligible for a paid JC position, 15 hrs per week (9am-noon).  Again, we ask that you commit to at least two weeks. An informal evaluation/review will take place at the end of each week to discuss strengths and things to work on.  Please fill out the online form and indicate your interest in the paid position.  There is a LIMITED amount of space available for this paid position and applications will be reviewed as they are received, so get yours in early!  We will contact you as we receive your application.
